We’re at the Tip of the Real-Time Social Media Iceberg

There’s a communications trend I’m totally captivated with: Real-time social media or the use of social media to document news and events as they happen.

Tweet seats” are just the start. I’m pretty sure we’re going to see a lot more integration of social media with real life, and I hope to do a lot more blogging about that in 2012.

For decades, technology has helped us feed that curiosity and desire to be in touch with our surroundings. Radio reporting from war correspondents was groundbreaking in its day. Then TV came along with its incredible ability to transmit moving images of things happening halfway around the world.

Online tools now personalize and decentralize experiences even more. Perhaps most importantly, they facilitate meaningful interaction and connection as life happens. There’s something extremely powerful about that.

And like I said earlier, I think this is just the start.
